Master Gardeners Program


Three weeks ago, I started my Master Gardeners class. So far, I’ve learned about the history of the program, soils, and pruning. I have another nine classes to go and 40 hours of service to complete before getting certified as a Master Gardener.

I had a friend a few years ago who took the course in another county and loved it. When we moved to our farm, I really wanted to start growing out own food, so I took a few free classes with the Rutherford County Master Gardeners at the local library. Continue reading

Getting Things Done – Part II

In my last post, I introduced you to my vision statement and my planner. I also talked about the importance of having a mentor or an accountability partner. In this post, I’m going to share with you what I do to maintain my energy and my focus.


Diet, Sleep, and Exercise
At 30, I was on statin meds for high cholesterol. I was in daily pain from rheumatoid arthritis. I was wearing a size 18. I was miserable and tired all day every day. I had trouble getting to sleep at night and trouble waking up in the morning. I suffered from chronic sinus headaches.

At 44, I have no issues with cholesterol and have been off my statin meds for over 5 years. I can’t remember the last time I had an arthritis flare up. I’m in a size 14 and headed to a size 12. Continue reading

A Little Tough Love


I’m getting ready to kick off the new year with a four part series on time management/organizational strategies that have helped me get where I am, but I don’t think any of that has value without a little tough love.

You are exactly where you want to be.

Yes, that is exactly what I said. You are exactly where you want to be. You have chosen your life.

Now, I know some of you are thoroughly pissed at me at the moment and are thinking things like, “I wouldn’t be here if my ex…” or “I wouldn’t be here if my parents…” I’m sure all of that is true, but you made choices that put you where you are, and you continue to make choices that keep you where you are.

How can I say that? How can I be so harsh? Because I’ve been there, and now I’m not. I know how feels, and I know how it feels to break free.

My New Toy

dsc_0127One of my big goals this year is to get back to being serious about my photography. My photography has long been a contemplative practice, connecting me with God. It is also a way for me to help others to see the beauty of God’s creation though my art.

To prepare for some new projects, I decided to upgrade my camera. I’ve been working with an entry level 14MP DLSR from 2007. I’m a firm believer that it’s your eye and your editing skills that make the photo and NOT your camera, BUT I needed something with greater resolutions for print projects.

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me 12 drummers drumming, 11 pipers piping, 10 lords a-leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a-milking, 7 swans a-swimming, 6 geese a-laying, 5 gold rings, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.


On the twelfth and final day of Christmas, I’m making a slow start to the day. My husband let me sleep in, and for once the dogs complied! I worked out 4 of 5 days this week and am SORE! It feels good to be rocking my health goals, but I’m definitely in need of some rest and recovery.

Instead of working in the office this morning, I think I’ll enjoy the last day of Christmas with my book and my journal. I hope you’re enjoying your last day of Christmas!
