Getting Things Done – Part I

checklist-2077025_960_720The question I get the most by friends and family? “How do you get so much done?” I think the answers would surprise most people. I don’t work ridiculous hours. I don’t multi-task like a mad women.

While so many are trying to turn over a new leaf for the new year, I wanted to share with you exactly how I get things done, so inΒ a three part series, I’m going to share with you all my secrets. Continue reading

A Little Tough Love

hug

I’m getting ready to kick off the new year with a four part series on time management/organizational strategies that have helped me get where I am, but I don’t think any of that has value without a little tough love.

You are exactly where you want to be.

Yes, that is exactly what I said. You are exactly where you want to be. You have chosen your life.

Now, I know some of you are thoroughly pissed at me at the moment and are thinking things like, “I wouldn’t be here if my ex…” or “I wouldn’t be here if my parents…” I’m sure all of that is true, but you made choices that put you where you are, and you continue to make choices that keep you where you are.

How can I say that? How can I be so harsh? Because I’ve been there, and now I’m not. I know how feels, and I know how it feels to break free.

My New Toy

dsc_0127One of my big goals this year is to get back to being serious about my photography. My photography has long been a contemplative practice, connecting me with God. It is also a way for me to help others to see the beauty of God’s creation though my art.

To prepare for some new projects, I decided to upgrade my camera. I’ve been working with an entry level 14MP DLSR from 2007. I’m a firm believer that it’s your eye and your editing skills that make the photo and NOT your camera, BUT I needed something with greater resolutions for print projects.

So… I decided on a Nikon D5600. Continue reading

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me 12 drummers drumming, 11 pipers piping, 10 lords a-leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a-milking, 7 swans a-swimming, 6 geese a-laying, 5 gold rings, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

12drummersdrumming

On the twelfth and final day of Christmas, I’m making a slow start to the day. My husband let me sleep in, and for once the dogs complied! I worked out 4 of 5 days this week and am SORE! It feels good to be rocking my health goals, but I’m definitely in need of some rest and recovery.

Instead of working in the office this morning, I think I’ll enjoy the last day of Christmas with my book and my journal. I hope you’re enjoying your last day of Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

On the Eleventh Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me 11 pipers piping, 10 lords a-leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a-milking, 7 swans a-swimming, 6 geese a-laying, 5 gold rings, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

11PipersPipping

On this eleventh day of Christmas, we’re also celebrating the anniversary of our first date eighteen years ago. I can’t believe it’s been that long! I was 26 and he was 34. Our daughters were 4, 6, 9, and 12. Now we have grandchildren almost that old!!! It’s been a wonderful, bumpy road building a life together.

We made a commitment for 2019 to have at least two official date nights a month. Tonight will be the first. We’re also making a commitment to get debt free, so we’ll be challenging ourselves to make the dates about spending time together and NOT about spending money. Tonight, we’re going to get library cards and check out the downtown area of our new city.

What are you excited about in 2019?
Merry Christmas!

P.S. This is one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs. I’m a dork. I know. πŸ˜›

On the Tenth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me 10 lords a-leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a-milking, 7 swans a-swimming, 6 geese a-laying, 5 gold rings, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On this tenth day of Christmas, I’m finding myself a little sad that the most people only spend a day rejoicing for the birth of our Savior. Some people spend an extra day or two if they have extended family or a blended family, but generally by now, everyone has put up their holiday cheer and is focused on new year’s resolutions.

What makes me sad is that I want to package the joy I feel and give it to everyone else. We just don’t seem to have enough in the world. Too much complaining. Too much frustration. Too much distraction. Not enough presence in the moment. Not enough love. Not enough joy. I want the world to be filled by the continuous promise of a child born to save us all. I want every day to be filled with a little Christmas magic.

What brings you joy?
Merry Christmas!

On the Ninth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me nine ladies dancing, eight maid a-milking, seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying, five gold rings, four calling bird, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On this ninth day of Christmas, I’m crazy busy at work. My day job that is. It’s the first business day of the year, so in addition to our normal reporting, I have month end for December and some prepping for year end requests, so while I work my afternoon away I’m enjoying an old favorite: The Beach Boys Christmas Album from 1964.

Tonight, I’m going to curl up on the couch with my husband, my dogs, and finish reading Eat, Pray, Love. I love the holidays! Even when they’re working holidays.Β  πŸ˜‰

Are you still celebrating?
Merry Christmas!
