On the Eleventh Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me 11 pipers piping, 10 lords a-leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a-milking, 7 swans a-swimming, 6 geese a-laying, 5 gold rings, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

11PipersPipping

On this eleventh day of Christmas, we’re also celebrating the anniversary of our first date eighteen years ago. I can’t believe it’s been that long! I was 26 and he was 34. Our daughters were 4, 6, 9, and 12. Now we have grandchildren almost that old!!! It’s been a wonderful, bumpy road building a life together.

We made a commitment for 2019 to have at least two official date nights a month. Tonight will be the first. We’re also making a commitment to get debt free, so we’ll be challenging ourselves to make the dates about spending time together and NOT about spending money. Tonight, we’re going to get library cards and check out the downtown area of our new city.

What are you excited about in 2019?
Merry Christmas!

P.S. This is one of my all-time favorite Christmas songs. I’m a dork. I know. 😛

On the Tenth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me 10 lords a-leaping, 9 ladies dancing, 8 maids a-milking, 7 swans a-swimming, 6 geese a-laying, 5 gold rings, 4 calling birds, 3 French hens, 2 turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On this tenth day of Christmas, I’m finding myself a little sad that the most people only spend a day rejoicing for the birth of our Savior. Some people spend an extra day or two if they have extended family or a blended family, but generally by now, everyone has put up their holiday cheer and is focused on new year’s resolutions.

What makes me sad is that I want to package the joy I feel and give it to everyone else. We just don’t seem to have enough in the world. Too much complaining. Too much frustration. Too much distraction. Not enough presence in the moment. Not enough love. Not enough joy. I want the world to be filled by the continuous promise of a child born to save us all. I want every day to be filled with a little Christmas magic.

What brings you joy?
Merry Christmas!

On the Ninth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me nine ladies dancing, eight maid a-milking, seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying, five gold rings, four calling bird, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On this ninth day of Christmas, I’m crazy busy at work. My day job that is. It’s the first business day of the year, so in addition to our normal reporting, I have month end for December and some prepping for year end requests, so while I work my afternoon away I’m enjoying an old favorite: The Beach Boys Christmas Album from 1964.

Tonight, I’m going to curl up on the couch with my husband, my dogs, and finish reading Eat, Pray, Love. I love the holidays! Even when they’re working holidays.  😉

Are you still celebrating?
Merry Christmas!

On the Eighth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me eight maids a-milking, seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying, five gold rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On this eighth day of Christmas, we’re enjoying a quiet family day in gratitude for how much we have. Not everyone gets to spend his/her life surrounded by love. All of us have ups and downs in our lives, but being surrounded by people you love makes it all worth it.

My wish for the new year is to be the kind of person who spreads hope, love, and joy where ever I go.

What are your hopes for the new year?

Merry Christmas!

On the Seventh Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying, five gold ring, four calling birds, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On this seventh day of Christmas, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude for my husband and for God’s work in repairing our relationship every time we screw it up.

I woke up with a nasty sinus headache. We have a front moving through and are expecting strong thunderstorms this afternoon. My sinuses are a biological barometer. Thunderstorms = sinus headache. Every time.

Instead of attacking Monday with my usual enthusiasm, I’m trudging through and trying to stay focused. My husband is bringing me food, drink, and medicine to keep me together until lunchtime when I will probably take a 30 minute nap.

Our big plans for New Year’s Eve? Same as last year. Get to bed early, so we can spend a full day together tomorrow when I’m off. There’s something to be said for being married to your best friend. ❤

What are you grateful for today?
Merry Christmas!

On the Sixth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to me six geese a-laying, five gold rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

On this sixth day of Christmas, I’m headed to church a little early. We’re doing a modified Lessons and Carols with a brunch afterward, so we have one service instead of two.

On Sundays, I make it a point not to turn on my computers in honor of the Sabbath, so after church I will hopefully be headed to the barn for some quality time with my pony.

How will you be celebrating today?

Merry Christmas!

On the Fifth Day of Christmas…

My true love gave to my five gold rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree.

5GoldRings

On this fifth day of Christmas, I’m sitting in my office letting the creative juices flow. The dogs woke us up just before 6 (late for them), and we enjoyed a lazy couple of hours laying around the living room with the boys to start our day.

After that, I came to my office for Morning Prayer and some writing time. During the week, I schedule blocks of time to work on my blogs and my primary book project, but on Saturday, I just enjoy writing. I write whatever comes to mind, or I work on a photography project. Today, I’m outlining a work of fiction.

During the week, I write whether the creativity is flowing or not. If it isn’t, I pull up prompts or just write badly, but I write. On Saturday, I write or create art until the juices aren’t flowing. When I’m done, the rest of the day is mix of date time with my husband and time with my pony.

For me, Saturdays are about love. They’re a mini-Valentine’s Day every week.

What can you do to love yourself today?
Merry Christmas!
